El canadiense The Weeknd nos trae ahora el videoclip de ‘Die for you’, un tema incluido en su tercer álbum “Starboy” de 2016 y del que inesperadamente se estrena ahora este audiovisual.
‘Die for you’ fue producida por Cashmere Cat, Prince 85, Cirkut, The Weeknd & Doc McKinney, siendo una canción que ya sumaba más de quinientos millones de reproducciones desde su lanzamiento original, hace ya cinco años. El vídeo musical, dirigido por Christian Breslauer, está inspirado en referentes del género de ciencia ficción como la popular serie de ciencia ficción ‘Stranger things’ (que está a punto de afrontar su cuarta temporada) y la película ‘E.T.’.
La historia del mismo está protagonizada por un joven inspirado totalmente en Abel (nombre real de The Weeknd) que conoce a una chica de la que se enamora perdidamente y al intentar escapar con ella se topa con las autoridades, a las que se expone mostrando sus poderes. Unas horas después de su lanzamiento ya acumula cerca de dos millones de visualizaciones en YouTube.
Tras la exitosa etapa de “After hours” (2020) y el reciente recopilatorio “The highlights” (2021), The Weeknd sigue avanzando un quinto álbum, del que pocos detalles se conocen ni su fecha de publicación, del que tan solamente estrenó el single ‘Take my breath’ . Será difícil superar el éxito mundial de ‘Blinding Lights’ (la canción más escuchada en Spotify durante el año pasado con más de 500 millones de reproducciones).
Recientemente también ha sorprendido cantando en español junto a Rosalía en el single ‘La fama’, además de estrenar otras colaboraciones como ‘Moth To A Flame’ con Swedish House Mafia y ‘One Right Now’ con Post Malone. Por otro lado, la plataforma de streaming HBO Max ha anunciado el estreno de la 1ª temporada de ‘The Idol’, la primera serie de The Weeknd, en la que el cantante será el protagonista, en un proyecto que cuenta con la colaboración de Sam Levison (Euforia) y del propio Abel como co-creadores de la serie.
