Los legendarios grupos Soft Cell y Pet Shop Boys unen sus voces en ‘Purple zone’, su primera colaboración que llega acompañada del correspondiente videoclip. El tema estará incluido en el próximo álbum del primero de ellos.
‘Purple zone’ ha sido compuesta por Rick Mulhall, David Ball & Marc Almond y producida por ambas bandas, con un vídeo musical dirigido por Yassa Khan. Esta colaboración entre ambos grupos de synth-pop de los 80’s surgió tras asistir Pet Shop Boys a uno de los shows del tour 2021 en Londres de los otros, en el que escogieron el tema como uno de sus favoritos tras planearse inicialmente un remix. El tema estará incluido (es el cuarto avance) en el quinto álbum de estudio de Soft Cell, el primero en 20 años, titulado “Happiness Not Included” a lanzar en mayo.
Según el comunicado: «un dueto soñado por los aficionados al synth-pop, ya que la ultra expresividad de Marc Almond se conjuga con la nostálgica voz de Neil Tennant, capturando las cuestiones existenciales sobre el paso del tiempo que se trazan a lo largo del album. Elevando su ritmo, Pet Shop Boys añaden también un reflejo hi-NRG que aumenta el tono melancólico de la canción, el sello personal de los sintetizadores dramaticos de Chris Lowe crea una gran intensidad teatral en el track.«
Soft Cell es un dúo de música británico fundado en 1978 por el vocalista Marc Almond y el tecladista Dave Ball, siendo popular durante principios de la década de los 80 por ser uno de los primeros exponentes de synthpop, especialmente por su versión del sencillo ‘Tainted Love’ (1981) de Gloria Jones. Tras separarse en 1984 y en 2003, volvieron a reunirse en 2001 y 2018.
Los también británicos Pet Shop Boys están conformado desde 1981 por el vocalista Neil Tennant y el teclista Chris Lowe, consiguiendo destacar durante los 80’s y 90’s con éxitos pop como ‘West End Girls’, ‘It’s a Sin’, ‘Always on My Mind’ o ‘Heart’, siendo considerados como pioneros del pop eléctronico y vendiendo más de 100 millones de discos mundialmente.
